How small should veggies be for snails?

I was just wondering how small I should cut up the veggies for my mystery snail. I just got him the other day, and yesterday I thought he was dead, becuase he was just sitting there. I pulled him out and tried to open the door (the door was partially open) but it didn't pull out easily so I put him back in. This morning he still hadn't moved so I pulled him out and the door was tightly shut and even recessed into the shell a bit. I take it he is still alive?

Anyway, I was going to put some veggies in the tank to see if that would wake him up. How small should I make them...and how long should I leave them in there before they soil the tank?

Thanks! I searched on these questions, but couldn't find any answers. In case you need water parameters:

Ammonia: 0
Nitrites: 0
Nitrates: 5ppm-10ppm
PH: 7.8

Thanks!

About 1mm long and 1mm wide will be fine, don't leave them in for more than a couple of days. Also what other fish are in that tank? Some fish can stress out snails. Snails can be very nervous in their first week or two. But once they have become established to their aquarium they will be fine.

I have:

4 Zebra Danios
4 Sterbai Corys
2 Cherry Barbs
5 Neon Tetras

30 gallon cube tank

Now his door is a little open again! He's making me very nervous but I don't want to keep picking him up and stressing him out.

No there shouldnt be a problem with those stockings...

The main thing is to just give him time.
Oh btw that is quite a large tank, you could get a couple more corys and tetras.

I've had a few deaths over the past month. I seem to be having trouble introducing new fish, even though the parameters are okay. I think I may have to acclimate them to my water more.

And slowly adding tank water to the bag. Last time I added fish I added 4 oz. of tank water every 15 minutes for an hour. By the time I released the fish it was like they had been in the tank all along.

When a snail dies you will know when you pick him up because he will STINK!!! Believe me you know...

As for the size of the food...it doesn't really matter. You can slice cucumbers or other veggies into spears or circles or you can just put the whole thing in at once. Mine really like parsley. As Flagfish said, you should remove whatever isn't eaten after a couple days.

I've always wanted to do that, but how do you keep air in the bag and add water?
