how to build rock formation that looks like texas holey rock?

I was going to buy a peice of this rock but every one wants around a dollar a pound, not includeing shipping! I want it for my 125g cichlid tank, and there should be a cheaper way to get the same result! Right now I have alot of caves/plants for them to hid out and make territorys, but with this set-up the fish don't feel comfortable enough to swim in the middle of the tank and spend alot of time on the bottom. I was thinking of PCV pipe but really don't know how to start ? Anyone with idea's or good links, I'd love a response. thanks
 
do what I did, went to a rock supply/landscaping business and got texas holey rock for 5 cents a pound.
 
Where are you located? I'm in MN, so they don't carry it in any stores.The local pet stores had never even heard of it!A Home depo just opened up here so I'll check them out..?
