how to build your own tank?

That Garf site on DIY tanks is outdated. There are much better ways to build tanks that can be found over the net

The best diy site I've found is here.

and also here.

Fool Proof method to build a tank:

1. Get Job, receive allowance, check under couch cushions, etc. to obtain money

2. Determine the size of tank that is best suited to your needs

3. Purchase that tank

End result - in the end, you have saved money and much time.

I agree....unless you're doing a custom tank, or going REALLY big...you're probably better off buying one.

Once you pass 75 gal. or so it becomes a seroius matter of having a firm grasp on liquid dynamics. I've built up to a 110 from glass and many smaller tanks over the years and I'd never even consider anything bigger than a 125 from scratch. I've built big plywood tanks too and after a few years they all developed a leak here or there. Heres a rough idea on cost. This is for the front and side panel out of a 40 gal breeder that I got for free from work. Long side is 36" x 16" and the end is 18" x 16" ..for both pieces the cost will be around 40 bucks and thats just 2 pieces of glass. A brand new 40 breeder can be had for around 75 dollars and a 55 can be gotten all day long for under 100. Factor in a warranty and the fact that these people did all the homework and know how to build a tank that'll stay together and it pays for itself in the end.
