can a net be used to catch a angel? dont want to sound dumb but dont want to damage its long fins that hang down.

Yes, Use soft net , wet it before you attempt to catch the Angel.
Make sure the net is at least double the size of the fish, when the fish is caught gently raise and support fish with your hand( make sure your hands are clean) we use hand sanitizer then rinse with cold water. It may sound extreme but better safe than sorry.

Good Luck

the net is about 6 times bigger than the angel. tried catching some tiger barbs about 30 mins 1 day with a little 4 inch net, went to lfs and bought a 10 or 12 inch net had them caught in no time.

pre wet to soften the net ,I know it sound funny. We find when we do not pre wet the net it can be stiff from sitting around. It has cost us, when the fins get damaged. I understand what you mean and it does sound stupid But.

Just some old man's tricks of the trade

We have been doing this on a commercial level for the past 10 years and our Angels pay their way and then some.

I have a small 1 gal tank that I use for any of my more delicate fish.

I put it in one end of the tank and use the net to chase the fish in. Then just raise the 1 gal and take it out of the tank. Then to release just submerge the small tank and the fish is free.

It has saved me a lot of stress....and my fish too.

practice makes perfect
