i got a moray eel and put ghost shrimp in there for him to eat, but he didnt eat them, any help on how to feed these guys? I know they dont really like dead food but prefer live.

I work for an aquarium company and we have a moray eel there. We feed him frozen smelt. The way we feed him is we defost the smelt in a cup of aquarium water and then we attach it to some tongs and wiggle it in front of him. This works almost every time we try to feed him. I hope this helps.

Doe sthe eel look like this one, if so then it needs brackish water and sometimes they wont eat if they either dont feel comfortable, or they need brackish water. They can go for 2 months no problem without eating....just keep an eye on it and dont let it go tooo long.

Perhaps he is just not ready to eat?

How long have you had the eel? It may be getting fimiliar to the habitat. After seeing there is nothing to fear, he probably will eat.

couple days

Like I said....Its either because its not settled in yet, or because he needs brackish water now. Mine stopped eating when it was time for brackish water. So be prepared to setup a brackish tank for it.

I've never had a moray, but I have an eel. I have never seen it eat anything since having bought him about 6-8 months ago. But it is still alive, and has grown a couple inches (I think). I don't know what it eats, but I feed mainly flake, and pellets.

I too have tried many, many different types of food from ghost shrimp, to blood worms, freeze dried blood worms, etc. I figure it must be eating something if it is still alive. It is very active now that it is in a larger tank (30 to a 125).

hes prolly 14" long, and the fish im trying to feed him are like 3 1/2 inches, maybe there too big? His mouth doesnt seem that big, what is there favorite food?
