I am having trouble getting the glue off of my acrylic tank. Just to brief you alittle, my boyfriend made several acrylic tanks and he put paper on one of the tanks and put it away because he ran out of time making them and the glue from the paper is now stuck to the aquarium. I have no idea what to use to get the glue off so that I can use the aquarium can anyone help me???? I'm loosing my mind over this.

I'm assuming you already tried soaking in water, and it didn't work. Okay, next try paint thinner, if that doesn't work, try acetone (nail polish remover), and if that doesn't work, try alcohol. But, before you use anything, try a little bit of it on the back of the aquarium near the bottom to see if it is going to affect the acrylic. Some solvents can make acrylic hazy.
If those things don't work, then I guess you could paint a nice aquascape
on the paper, and hope people don't notice the difference. heheee.

I used to work with acetone in a factory setting. If memory serves correctly, it'll stain plastics and other acrylics to a milky-whiteness where it comes into contact.

Yeah don't let acetone get on the acrylic. It will melt it and may turn it white. Do you know what kind of glue it is?

undefinedNo honestly I don't. Maybe this may help some. I guess when you buy the acrylic it comes with brown paper on it, so that you don't scratch it and such. Well thats the stuff I can't get off. I guess he made the aquarium with the paper on it so as not to scratch it, and thats the wonderful glue from the paper I can't get off. HELP!!!!

hmm. usually it's not glued on very securely. Did you try getting a corner free and just working on it until you can pull it off? It should peel right off if it's the paper that came on the acrylic.

Yes I have tried to do that but its like melted to it, It was put in the attic and I really think the heat did something to it. The paper will come off but you can still see all the glue on it. I'll probably have to trash it, but I was really hoping that I was going to be able to save it, it's a really nice tank. Any other suggestion?????????? or should I just trash it? Thanks for all the help so far.

What about using a credit card to scrape it off? You'd have to be careful not to scratch it, but it should scrape off with a bit of patience and elbow grease. Other option--Naptha or kerosene. It's recommended for removing adhesives. Use a clean cloth to wipe off the adhesive, then wash well with soap and water. Since this is an aquarium, I'd then soak it in hot water with oxyclean and rinse well to remove any residues.

rubbing alcohol is safe to use on acrylic and might revove it too. afaik, naptha and kerosene are as well but will likely leave more of a residue.
