I notice in my aquarium that although algae does grow, coating the rocks, decorations, and glass surfaces, it tends to be BROWN algae, instead of GREEN. Is there anything one can do to encourage the growth of GREEN instead of BROWN? Some of my fish will nibble at the brown algae but they don't seem to be very crazy about the taste? I keep Tropheus and Eretmodus, which are both herbivores, so how to get GREEN would be my concern. Please offer construxtive suggestions. Thanks!

To recap a recent post I made, here's my setup... maybe it will help diagnose my growth conditions for algae?

Filter(s): 2 × Rena Filstar xP3 {External Canisters} ~ {Biological Media: 16 Nylon "Pot Scrubbers"};
............. 1 × Hagen AquaClear 110 Power Head w/ HydroSponge-III (#3) pre-filter w/ "venturi" (Hagen "Optima" Air Pump); and
............. 1 × HydroSponge-III (#3) w/ air stone (Jet Stream "3500" Air Pump);

Heater(s): 2 × Visitherm 200-Watt @ 79°F;

Light(s): 2 × 48" Philips "Daylight Deluxe" ~ {Lumens = 1075; Rendering = 79; Colour = 6500 K} {Timer: 07:00 - 23:00}; and
............. 2 × 48" GE "Cool White" ~ {Lumens = 1200; Rendering = 62; Colour = 4150 K} {Timer: 07:00 - 23:00}.

Water: Tap Water, buffered with "Cichlid Buffer" {Buffer Mix: 3 pt. Epsom Salts, 1 pt. Baking Soda, 1 pt. Pure Sea Salt}.

Substrate: Silica Sand @ ½"; Local rocks of various geologic compositions.

Exactly. You're only putting out 192 watts over 150 gallons so you're barely 1.25 wpg. Algae just like plants need the light to make chlorphyll (sp?) to turn and stay green.
