I live in Delhi
What will make my red tailed tinfoil barbs grow to their full length of approx 10 to 12 inches? Apart from water changes, will feeding them some fresh vegitation help ? Let me know those of you who know more than me!:grinyes:

Clean water and lots of good food. Talking to them van't hurt either... :hypnotized:

Plenty of space, plenty of food, plenty of clean water...

... and sticking your head into the tank and kissing them occassionally might make them feel secure.

Frequent water changes and frequent feedings :grinyes:!! My guys were tiny little baby's when I bought all SIX of them and within 2 months they were the size of my opened hand, and quite beautiful, all silver with brilliant red tails and fins. They would eat anything and everything, I put in that tank, as well as my plants :angryfire:. I was feeding them flakes, bloodworms, tubiflex worms, Omega one freeze dried Krill and Mysis Shrimp. Voracious, aggressive eaters, not fussy at all and you don't have to worry about left over food in the tank...there won't be any!! I loved my guys but unfortunately I had to rehome them, as they quickly outgrew my 60 gallon. I envy you...they're a real joy to watch and they got along with all my other fish.

Remember my 2 little 1-1.5'' red tail tinfoil barbs from about a month ago. Now there about 3-5'' each. AND they are real red. All I did was buy a larger redtail tinfoil of about 12'' and they turned red. I also fed veggies and shrimp and color enforcing pellets. So feed meat and veggie foods.
HAPPY HALLOWEEN

So for an alternative to flakes

I have seen this in a few threads just wanted to confirm but i have some barbs and tetras that are growing and dont seem satisfied with their food.

Can i make the Shrimp, peas, bloodworm type mixture for them.

And are there and negative to feeding alternative food? Because my genius friend that i had watch my tank for a weekend fed them tuna out of can instead of flakes but they were fine, he said they loved it

Where's the BEEF?

When I bred Oscars, I would run beef heart though a blender/meat-grinder/food-processor/etc., just to get it into "bite size" bit. During this period, I would drop a bit in the Angels tank, etc. I noticed even the plecos would WOLF IT DOWN!

I have NEVER (and I cannot emphasize this enough) seen any food which will put body mass on a fish so fast. I think it is important to feed other foods in between so they get a balanced diet.

Nowadays, beef heart can be a bit difficult to locate here, WinCo in this area has it and I can buy just a half if I want (will keep in the freezer, after grinding for a year or so.)

If they like it, give it a try! I think you will be amazed at the results!

One of the Petsmarts near me sells fozen beef heart cubes, which are great. Just thaw them out in a cup of tank water and drop 'em in. My African Brown Knife loves them.
