I think this might be useful to canister users.
What prevention methods we all take to make sure the canisters do not leak?

1. I do monthly maintenance and lube the seal

1. Clean, check for damage and lube seals.
2. Assemble the filter correctly. Check the instructions if you are unsure.
3. Check filter hoses for damage and verify clamps are properly secure.
4. Don't force any filter components when reassembling after cleaning. If something feels wrong, it probably is.

And have a supply of rubber gaskets for that model of filter.

I wipe the seals and all sealing surfaces down with a damp paper towel and re-apply plumber's grease. Having a spare seal kit like said above is wise.

To me, if you have to clean your canisters monthly, you need more filtration or less bio load. I flippin HATE cleaning my canisters.
