How to split baby Anubias?

Hey everone, I have a big anubias plant attached to a piece of hollow lava rock that I have had for about 3 months now. About a month ago, I have noticed that little baby rhizomes are starting to appear about every 1/2 inch or so. Right now, the rhizomes have about 2-3 baby leaves about the size of a nickel or a quarter. When do you think I should split them off? Should I split them off now?

There's no particular reason to remove them unless you want them to be in a different area on the rock. That's probably the case, you can cut them whenever as long as there are roots coming out of the rhizome and leaves it'll grow again. I'm not sure the absolute min amount you need to grow a new one, but as long as you aren't trying to push the limit it'll be fine.

i would try to keep at least 3 leafs on one plant. you use a razor blade to cut it to split it.

Okay, I'll leave them on for a week more and then cut and attach to more wood.

Yeah, wait until it gets bigger, then use a razor blade to cut it. If its not a clean cut, the rhizome will melt away

I have had good luck just breaking them (gently of course). I make sure to leave at least 3 or 4 leaves on the rhizome. Good luck!

:iagree: I've had them break off when handled with no ill effect.. as long as there is a healthy rhizome on the base.

Yeah, I just cut with surgical scissors
