which would be better for a 20 gallon long? which would be better/easier to breed and sell? could i keep them with gold barbs or cherry barbs? could i keep one of each? last question. i have 2 internal filters rated for 10 gallons each, but i had them in a crab tank where the tank was brackish. id like to use these along with an aquatech 10-20, but im scared salt particles will kill my cichlids. i was thinking of just buying some filter floss and jaming them full with it, but what if there's salt in the impeller or something?
thanks!!

get a 20 gallon filter. I personally wouldn't do either in a 20 long. They won't work with anything else in a tank that small, you might be able to get away with a single HRP.

you do relize they stay about the same size as a convict right, and alot of people do a pair of convicts in a 20 gallon long. i have a 20 gallon filter. im saying i want to use more then one filter.

I do realize that, I'm telling you that it's not a good idea. You will have way too many babies....

probably with the HRP's but if i kept the cutteri in a pair i could sell them off(i also have a 10 gal fry tank), but if i will be over run then would 1 of each work?

First the fish. A pair of Cutteri could work out in a 20g. As far as cons, yes some have kept a pair in a 20, but I don't think it would work out long term most of the time. Cutteri on the other hand I found to be much less aggressive. However, I did not keep them with any other fish. If you feel they are out growing the tank later on, it wouldn't be too difficult to upgrade them to a 30. They should spawn on a regular basis, but not anything like the baby machines Cons are.

Second, the salt shouldn't hurt the fish. If there is any in there, it should dissolve quickly and won't be enough that they would probably even notice. Even if a particle of undissolved salt goes flying out of the filter and one of them tries to eat it, they will probably just spit it out with a disgusted look.

are the cutteri pretty personable and easy to sale the fry? and would one of each work? one HRP and one cutteri?

I have HRP and they stay much smaller than Cons and less aggresive.

I have no experience with cutteri but believe they are more similar to HRP than Cons.

Although not optimal, a bonded pair can be kept in a 20 long.

As far as the salt, it is fine. Many people even add a little salt to freshwater aquariums.

Here is another option if you want to order online. Crypyoheros Chetumalesis.
