both of these fish are NOT TROPICAL FISH although fishy #2 looks like a tropical fish (darter tetra) they were caught in a river that runs along my property (I live in middle Tennessee)

I believe that fishy #2 is a blackbanded darter (or some other similar name)
i have no clue for #1

I can't help you out that much, but this link is really great. I've used it before for drawings and stuff.

Scroll down, its a photo gallery of about every native fish you could imagine by alphabetical scientific name.

#1 looks like a type of gobie...but it's hard to tell from the pic.
#2 does look like a darter.

thanks lepardess, just what i needed, but whats the scientific name for a goby

Looks like a SCULPIN of some type

or what Europeans call bullheads.

The top one is a sculpin, common name for that species is a mudler minnow, also a heavily preyed upon fish and why fly tiers mimic the fish. Neat guys. The top one could be a darter. Both are colder water fish, the sculpin for sure, temps above 70ish aren't too good for them. They also need a high O2 saturation level.
