They gave this to me as a present for being a return customer. Claws look pretty big and it's about the size of a quarter. Not sure I want to have to catch this thing later on 'cause it's eating my fish. Any idea on what it is and what it does? Harmful or harmless? Can I put it in a sump without a problem or should I give it to my lfs?
Thanks,
Tom

Does it have fan like appendages near it's mouth?
If it does, it is a filter feeder in the porcelain crab family.
The claws are for defense against predators.
I am almost positive it is a caribbean porcelain crab.
HTH, Rich

:iagree: Filter feeding crabs sucha s those in the porcelain/anenome crab family have large claws for defensive purposes. Check the mouth as the Mr. Firemouth suggests

also, they probably wouldn't give people random live animals that not everyone will be able to have in their tank, so a filter feeder would be a good choice to give to everyone. Just a thought. :)
