so i was told that i need ~ 1.008 specific gravity? is that correct?
i have a 20 gallon here and i added ~ 6 teaspoons of instant ocean and waited 20 mins, then i took a measurment and i got 1.006.. but i just took another measurement again ( approx 2 hours late) and i have like.. 1.002.. .

did i do something wrong?

make sure there are no air bubbles on the needle, otherwise you'll get a higher reading than you should. You shouldn't jump from no salinity to 1.006 in an established tank. If in fact your tank is already cycled, it could disturb the bacterial colonies and kill them off. Then the tank would then have to re-cycle. Try adding 2 tablespoons a night and keep taking readings everynight, one hour after you add the salt to reach your desired SG. DO NOT add the salt directly to the water, add it to the water in your filter. Follow these directions and you should be fine.
