I found a hurt toad...

I found a toad while shoveling a pile of dirt... one of his legs have been skinned and partly cut off... i didnt know what to do with it so i put it in my mini crab tank (on the dry land side) for now... does anyone have any info on how to care for a injured toad?
I dont know anything about toads.. i hear they like dry land and i gave him some small earthworms but dont know what else to do for it.

Contact your Department of Natural Resource/ Game and Fish. They can advise you on the best way to care for the toad, or put you in touch with a recovery program.

Not all toads like dry land--there are many that are semi-aquatic. Keeping him in a moist environment with some moss and clean dirt he can burrow in will likely help most species. Make sure the water is clean-frogs and toads are very senstive to poor water conditions and can't tolerate salt.
 
Sometimes. Frogs and toads are very hardy creatures, in healthy environments. They are also very sensitive to fluctuations in water quality, and to chemicals and hormones in the water. As of late, an increasing number of amphibian populations are suffering from a number of mutations, including emasculation and missing or extra limbs. Those born missing limbs never regrow them.

There is also a very scary fungus that is hitting frog populations very hard. Chitrid fungus has wiped out several colonies world wide, and is threatening some populations that are already suffering from habitat loss. There isn't a known treatment for this fungus, and scientists don't know if it's endemic, meaning something is changing so the frogs are susceptible, or if it is being spread via a third party, such as insects or birds.
