Well, as most of you I purchase my fish from the store.

I have a 25Gal wide tank, 15 fish whole assortment of beuties (freshwater)

this morning when I woke up I saw something attached to my tank. it was the size of a penny, and it was a snail.

How did this get here? (never purchased on) and what should I do about this now? Keep it as an algae eater? Or remove it? I can't tell what kind of snail it is ((not my specialty)). Anyone have advice? Will i be over run with them? Will they leave my tank?

Your assistance more than appreciated!

have you bought any live plants lately?

There eggs can come in on fish, in petstore water or the most common way on live plants. I have them in my tank and they don't bother me. They leave my live plants alone and keep my glass spotless. I rarely need to use my algae scraper with them. They won't leave your tank since they need water to survive though you might see them in your filter or your light hood from time to time. As long as you don't overfeed your fish or let any food get in your gravel, you should not have problems with their populations. When I vacuum my substrate, I usually take out a large amount of their babies and food keeping their population in control.

:shark: IF THE SNAILS OFFEND THEE SMITE THEM! or purchase some loaches they love snails!!
 You don't have live plants do you?

My theory is there is a Snail Fairy that visits unsuspecting people's aquariums and deposits eggs in the night. I have snails in one of my tanks but they somehow leaped to another one and now there's a small colony of pond snails in my 10 gallon. Nothing at all was transferred between the tanks either, making it even more strange. So the only logical solution is the Snail Fairy. :D

Seriously though, probably just came in on something you added to the tank. I'm doubtful they came in on the fish themselves but it's not impossible.

Do you use the same fish net on both tanks?

Snail fairy, that cracks me up!!!

This snail is the size of a penny? Can you post a pic of it? Some snail species are not as invasive as others can be, so let's try and figure out what you have. Really, what you do about it depends a lot on whether or not you mind having the snails in your tank. No matter if you want to keep them or kill them, be very careful to not overfeed or there could be a LOT of snails you have to deal with.

I occasionally do use the same net on both tanks but the nets are always dry between uses so it couldn't have come off a net. Besides which, I hadn't used a net on either tank in a very long time.

your luckey, you got a free snail, i had to pay $1.40 for each of my snails, lol

I got a bag of trumpets and various kinds of pond snails for free. :D I did have to pay for my apples though.
