don't despair- it's frustrating... I took a filter from my old tank and it looked as if the cycle would be finished in just two weeks- it was going through almost 3 ppm ammonia - nitrates in 24 hours... Then I had a pH crash and basically had to start over. It's been an additional month since then, but the newly-inspired paranoia about water parameters has paid off.
here's an idea- give your tank a good solid vacuuming... stir up the gravel to get all the grime and nasties into a clean bucket... and dump it into your cycling tank. Do it a couple times and you might just see your tank start cycling a bit faster every time.
