just made it make them feel at home, they are very shy..
they are in a 15gal 24x12x12 i have a aqua clear 20 on it and inside in the rt corner is a cheap air type filter, that holds carbon/floss, which i want to replace with a sponge.
i have it loaded, with dwarf sags, and a few other plants but the sags most are tiny and grass like, they satyed down under it at all times till you turn off the lights, then they come up so i planted some adult sags hoping that they would swimm higher but nope, so i have a arched like piece of drift wood there and they love to be under cover and they come out to eat but stay under the tops of the tiny sags, they chase each other at the speed of light all day long, it helps if you have females, of cource, i spent hours in the store studying them to see who it who, and i got the first time 1m and 4 f after a few days i couldn't sleep and whent back and got another male and 3f, so i have male rivalry,
which is needed or the guys sit and watch tv all day,..
so 2 males and 7 females the females are the ones that run around. males stay under everything except to put the moves on..
its a natural river sand from the ohio river that i had left over from a barn progect that has been cleaned and sit in my yard for 6 years,.. i washed it and used peroxide and it was in the tank when i put them in there i had it set up for a couple shrimp,.. so they really love it..
its beside the picture window to the large open porch/with roof,. so they really get dusk/dawn light but indirectly,.. i think this is why they like it just like nature.. when dusky/dawn they are really active and swim up to the top portions of the tank ..
they love blood worms but have a hard time eating them. they need tubflex frozen or live but i can't find them,..
and i feed hikari frozen baby brine shrimp and crush to powder spirilla flakes and feed them a bit they love to hunt like neons so i think they prefer tiny live creatures,..
took pic of the tank, but battery on camer craped out will post later, can't take pics of fish they are too fast for the flash,.. i got a few but didn't know they were there just buzzed thru..so far i only see 1 may be arn't any more maybe i just see 1 at a time who knows if they did it once they can do it again,.. i'll just keep pumping fresh food to them and ripen their eggs or flush as us farmers say,.. they can't help but breed when full of good food..
temp is 78,..
well water, iron, hard water, right now ph is 7.8 out of tap, will get acidic in the winter ..
full of calcium/ mag but no test for it so don't know how much
