I got my fish!

Honestly, I wouldn't add anymore different fish to the mix, but I do think you could add a couple more otos and tetras if you wanted. Congrats

Holly, I didn't see your post before I went back to the store. I ended up deciding to go with a flame dwarf gourami (he is sooo beautiful) and 2 more otos. The otos are tiny and since adding the 2 more their personalities have completely changed! They are super active chasing each other around and hanging around each other all the time. I bought them to keep my plants clean but I'm really starting to like them for their personality. The cats love them the most, they are always pawing at the glass where they attatch.

I also got an anacharis and hornwort. I hope my fiance finishes drinking that soda so I can start the co2 injection...that 2L is the last piece I need to get it started up.

My rummy's weren't schooling when I first got them but they are now. Well 5 of them are. The 6th one I think was the one the guy dropped on the floor and I still think he made it into my tank. He is on his way out and I don't expect him to be alive when I get home tonight. He's been struggling the whole time I've had him and this morning his tail is partly gone and the back of his tail looks stiff. However, the 5 healthy ones had very little color at the store and their noses turned bright red in my tank! I think they like my pH of 6.8 and they are SUPER active.

I took a ton of pictures but without a flash they all came out blurry. I'll have to read some threads on taking good aquarium pics.

I think I will keep my 4 rams until I see a pair form. Then I will sell the other 2 to someone locally if I can find anyone. I hate to bring them back to the store, so I'll try to find another hobbyist. Of course theres always the chance not all will pull through as I've read happens often :( so I'll be lucky if I get a pair out of the 4. I think they are still young... maybe to young to know for a while because they are far from being territorial with each other. Actually they enjoy hanging out all together.

This aquarium has completely replaced tv for the time being. I just sit and watch it for hours. The frogs are getting a little more relaxed and I'm seeing them a little more frequently as they come up for air. I'm concerned they are not eating. They are shy of my turkey baster but maybe I'm expecting to much to soon, I just don't want the cute little things to starve. Not sure how good pet stores do of keeping these little guys fed.

I'm a little surprised at how inactive my guppies are. They seem to be just hanging out at the top not doing a whole lot. My water conditions are perfect and they are the hardier of the group. Maybe they take a bit to warm up to a new tank? I remember them having more personality than this....

I also won a bid for 12 cherry shrimp. If I wasn't at capacity before I am now. Gotta tell myself...no more fishies. I love cardinals but I'm afraid that won't happen. Oh well. I can see how people get addicted to tanks!

congrats :thm:

I am prob going to set up a 40 with rams ..

I love my oto's they are so cool..
nice Bengal..I don't have any of those but I do have two ragdolls (flame point creams) they are brothers..

Ragdolls are pretty cool cats and very popular at shows. Any "big cat" is cool in my eyes :D . My cats are almost as obsessed with teh fish tank as I am. Of course the one I thought would be the most interested is not and the one I thought would be the least, is the obsessed one. Its exactly opposite with who likes the birds on the patio.

Hmm this is an interesting observation...
Hope is related to the Serval and they are bird catchers, hence liking the birds.
Mika is related to the Asian Leopard Cat and they like to fish, hence the preference with the tank.
Autumn is our moggie tabby, and she is equally obsessed with birds and fish :D .

Thanks guys!

So out of all my fish I got I think I will lose 1 rummy-nose (not my fault, stores fault), and 1 or 2 otos. One oto isn't moving much and looks different. The other looks fine but isn't acting like the others (who are extremely playful!).

I need to look up how to sex otos. I have one that distinctly looks different. The color on the back is paler and the underside is yellower. Where the others have a white underside and darker patterns. I'm suspecting the yellow one might be a female but I'll look it up. The yellow one is always near or bugging one of the others but its really fun to watch their antics.

After rereading the froggy article I think I have 1 male and 2 females. They are also not quite so scared today and I saw all 3 of them eating the worms I threw down for them. Yay!

Well now I have ich but thats not why I posted.

My shrimp molted last night! Very cool.

My male guppies are starting to act like males for the first time. The funny thing is, I have 4 females for them and they are both obsessed with one that has a red fin. She is also the largest of the females and very likely the first to give birth based on her tummy size. But both males barely glance at the other girls, just the red one. They also dance at each other, some sort of dominance thing?

I'm getting a little worried that one of my rams might be a gold ram not a german blue. His color is completely different and now that they are all starting to color up his color is distinct. Not sure on that yet. I'll try to get some decent pics. Not that I'll be selling them anyway but I know its discouraged to let them cross so I'll keep an eye on him.
