well I guess you're right.... hmmm.... can anyone here think of any other way to portect my fish in case of a fire?

well, you would also have u like unplug everything so the fish dont get electricuted
if the fire was real bad and right around the tank, then i dont think theres much to do
for a betta you can dip your shirt in water and carry the betta to your neighbors like that lol

1. dont put your fish near anything that will catch on fire, like a stove, furnace, or fireplace
2. keep a fire exinguisher in the house so you can douse small fires like cooking fires (no water on grease fire though), and especially in areas where fires are likely to happen
3. dont set things on fire in your house (unless it is IN the fireplace)
4. call the fire department if there is a fire
5. dont light candles near paper (believe me it can happen)
6. IF THERE IS A FOREST FIRE IN YOUR AREA you need to evacuate immidietly, and you can try to save some of your fish, but if youve got big fish like arowana, oscars, etc. then you should leave them.

All though I applaud your dedication, dont you have family or friends? I am sure they would be devestated at your loss much more than you would be of your pets. Lets face it, pets are lower lifeforms, and in a life or death situation I would not spend the time trying to rescue them. Yes, open up windows, etc. if there near by grab em, but I wouldnt put more than a few seconds of effort towards there rescue if it was life or death. I hope none of us would ever have to face that situation.
I think if your house is on fire, luck is going to be the only thing you got going for you. Some things you have going againts you: flames (burning wall or ceiling can collapse on your tank, the stand and hood may catch fire) your equipment can get damaged, heat (can cook your fish or break the glass of the tank), chemical fire fire retardants getting in your water, also your power, if still on, will be shut off and wont be back on anytime soon. This is all perhaps a more serious fire, your odds are better if you have a minor fire that doestn spread to other parts of the house.

I often wonderd what I would do if there was a fire. I guess I would just grab my pet rat and run. If I have time jar the fish. I do have hard wood floors so I guess I could just leave the door open and slid that tank to the door its only a few yards, and let the firemen cary the tank out when they come.

If it was me, I'd be more concerned with earthquakes (remember Good Friday, 1964-well maybe not, you're too young!).
As I recall, streets there in Anchorage sunk 20 feet, Turnagin Sound was no more (along with a town who's name I can't remember right now)!
AS much as you love your fishies, a human life is more important. Fish can be replaced; you can not be replaced quite as easy!

1st...I agree with the blanket not helping for much. Besides, you cant wrap the whole tank so the bottom would melt anyway.
2nd...If it were between me and the fish, I'd be eating grilled piranha after the fire is out. Although, I never cared for well done...

Use most of the water in the tanks to help put the fire out. Put the 10 g under one arm and the 5g under the other and run like hell!!!!!!!!!:dog:
ahhh.... if only it were that easy....
well I know what you guys are saying.... it's just how I feel.... I am one of the most protective people in the world. my mother knows this and she said she would understand if something like that ever happened. also, just so you know i've nearly killed myself about 5 times before trying to protect my pets.
seeing my tanks, I think I would be able to get the 5G out quite easily, as it's ligher and a few feet from a window. my 10G would be the problem.... SIGH. my apartment is small, so most likey if a fire started it would be easy to contain under most circumstances.
and adrrvark... I am very prepared for earthquakes. I have my 10G on a very wide, stable table that is reenforced at the base, same goes for my 5G.
