I have a stupid question about pinkeye and aquarium cleaning...

ILOVEBETTAS

It's Cory Lover's cat!
I know this is stupid but I'm wondering if I can still clean my tank even when I have pinkeye (conjuctivitis.) I have it really bad now but I need to clean my tanks...

not a dumb question at all, ILB, you know that by now :)

I don't think this would be a problem but to err on the side of caution, rinse your hands and arms off very very well before putting in the tank.

OK, thanks. I'm just afraid that the sickness that is just minor to use would do major da mage on my fish. I'll be careful.

You could rinse your hands/arms in alcohol or peroxide then in plain water, if you wanted germ-killing without soap.

This is a good post....

what would be/is the best way to "sanitize" yourself prior to cleaning your aquariums?

Ha! We both had "The Eye" this week. Got my doc to get me a week off work. Yes! Antibiotics were murder though.

I had just done a water change before I got sick so I didnt have to dip in my tank.

But if I had to go into my tank I would have done just as everyone above suggested and sanitized my arms and hands somehow.

you could go to your lfs and pick up a box of disposable rubber gloves that go up to your elbow.

On the flip side, if you got tank water in your eye somehow be it from your hands or whatever, could the dirty tank water cause you to get conjunctivitis? One time I had put a fish bag in the tank, poured some tank water into the bag gradually and after awhile proceeded to take the bag out of the tank so that I could release the fish w/o the bag water into the tank. Well somehow when I pulled the bag out of the water I got some of the water in my eye and sure enough within the week I was at the Dr.'s office getting eye drops for conjunctivitis....coincidence?
