greenwich london uk
i tested this morning and nitrites totally 0
and same with ammonia
bio spira is excellent!!!

so we went shopping for my fish

'it is usual not to stock whole tank' says lfs owner 'are you sure' he says

told him about bio spira hadnt heard of it obviously (uk)

told him what it does very impressed and wants me to let him know how it goes.

do have one issue with my water, after 95% water change no reduction in reading so i tested tap water straight and got the sme reading
when i mentioned this to lfs man he said that we have it in tap water here

and he suggested using a nitrate removing filter bag
what do you think bought one but havent put it in

40 gallon stocking
12 neon tetra
6 male rainbow guppies
6 male variegated guppies
6 mickey mouse platies
6 corydora catfish
1 betta

also added half bag biospira yesterday and more with fish today to be safer

got the betta as he was in with the guppies and not bothering them at all
he looks great lilac body with darker purple and red tips to his fins

my son got his betta and two mickey mouse platies for his tank

now all i can hope is it carries on as well as it is right now

:dance :dance :dance

but it all looks great and wanted to share that with everyone who has helped me out.

Betta and guppies? Lions and tigers and bears oh my. :) Who knows. My betta is siting here in his bowl flaring at my typing fingers. Maybe they're not all the same, but I'd watch for sure. Mine figures he's a piranah and no fish is gonna be prettier than him, especially a guppy.

how much is that bio spira?

what are the nitrate readings of your water?

nitrate readings are at least 40ppm possibly higher this is the same in the tank and from the tap though

the betta is in love with his own reflection and isnt flaring at all

he was in with guppies at the lfs .the owner said he found some were flaring with guppies some were fine.

as i cant remember what i paid

i have more concerns about the platys and the guppies
how do you know if your platy is female cos the guppies are flirting with a couple may have to swap around a couple of fish to save any dodgy goings on.

also the betta is a fussy eater live bloodworms are on the menu at tonights feeding frenzy see how that helps.

also how do you get the food past the guppies and platies down to the tetras as the top feeders dont seem to want to stop feeding long enough to let it go down enough for the neons to get some

who knows maybe my betta is smart enough to know the reflection is him and that no other fish could possibly be as good looking as him :)

I don't think guppies and platy will do the 'fandango.' Male platy is smaller than the female and has 2 tiny fins pointing back under the abdomen. mine ignores the female guppy, she should be giving birth soon. Live food....yummy :(

Problem with a community tank, the squeaky wheel gets the grease. I will have to remove my African butterfly for the same reason. She is a timid feeder. I have to put in frozen bloodworms, little frozen chunks so they float if she is to get any. After they thaw they sink to the bottom and keep the rest busy. So she manages a few.
