Well my red zebras had not spawned in a while, since losing power a few months ago from hurricane ike this last year. Also the male almost died awhile back and was weak and injured from getting stuck in a tube that popped off in my tank. I had to put him with the baby zebras to recover. I still have two sets of pretty young red zebras from last fall in my 20g. Some are just getting big enough to rehome.
Recently i have seen the red zebra pair spawing again, as the female now looks like its holding.
To make things more interesting, i just caught my male ice blue zebra and socofi cichlid spawing. It now apears the socolfi is holding eggs. The male ice blue has been moving gravel all around tank, agressivly chasing others as his pretty blue color has turned lighter with his black markings showing.
To make things worse, i will be moving soon, up to 30 miles away with a diff. public water system. I will keep as much water as i can take with me with 5 gal jugs or buckets.
The fish are in a 55g tank.I guess my water is the best it's ever been, concedering all this spawing. I dont test the water like i should. I do syphon about 20-30% of water weekly and cleaning using python.I use stress coat. I have a penguin 350 as the primary filtration, nothing special. And i'm using half of an undergravel filter in oppossite side of tank from powerfilter for a little better circulation. I dont have the best combination of africans in my tank. I have 3 yellow labs, 2 socolfi, 1 male ice blue, 1 young female ice blue, 3 red zebras, a trophus that was givin to me, and a med.sized blood parrot that i know i cant keep forever because of its adult size. It was given to me. And 1 other.
Thanks for any replies. I hope i can find a positive in this.
