i just got 2 swordtails and 3 neon tetras and i need some ideas for more fish

i would get a few more neon tetras. they like to have a school of fish to be in, makes them more secure. If the swardtails are a male and female, youll have babies to fill the rest of the space.

Hopefully you have some sort of plants, decorations, etc for them to hide in?

As stated already I would suggest getting at least 6 neons. The swordtails need I believe 1m/3fm or aggression may become a problem. I could be wrong on this but this is what I have been told and why I only have 1 (male).

Good luck!!

you are right. swordtails do need to be in a 1m/3fm ratio, or they will become a bit agressive and nippy. they females distract them and keep them away from the other fish's fins. i have found that the same thing goes for mollies.

you could do one of two things. you could take the swordtaill back and exchange it for 3 more neons and a dwarf gourami, or you could take the neons back and get a couple of females.

I don't know that I've ever heard a 10G described as spacious. It seems to me that swordtails are always one of the first type of fish new keepers buy. I personally find them far too messy and prolific. If you really get into fish keeping, I'll bet you ditch the swordtails altogether.

True Apra, I have 2 Swords in my 10g, both males. The bigger one is a pest to the smaller ST. He only seems to get agrivated around feeding time when the smaller (and faster) ST rushes in to steal his food. They eat everything, and poop more than they eat. If my GF wasnt so attached to "bert and ernie" They would be back in the lfs. :mad2:

PS. Get more neons!

LOL yeah i would agree with everyone more neons and get rid of the swordys. just tell your GF to go pick out a cool new groumis or somehting that would look great with neons
