I Just Got A Ticket!!...

i'm probably going to spend more, and it would really suck to get all my gear taken away.

You have that correct...even when I am just chucking hardbaits, I usually have $1500 worth of tackle with me, easily double that when I am flyfishing...even if I were not good friends with a number of COs and a conservation nut myself, it just would not be worth the potential loss.

On an interesting side note...here in Alberta, any and all seized rods/reels/tackle is put into a program that lends it out to less fortunate kids so that they can fish too.

Most states that have laws to seize the gear of violators have a similar program. Seized goods can be auctioned off (funds go to habitat programs or something similar), and gear goes towards education programs. In Wyoming, the first year we had that law, a guy was busted using his helicopter to drive game to his unlicensed son. Selling the chopper brought in more than $100,000. :)

I'm sorry but to not know you need a fishing liscense is just plain stupid. It just ticks me off that people would be so ignorant to not look at the rules. What would you have done if you caught a fish. Clearly you did not bother to see what type and size of fish you could catch. I'm glad you got a ticket, but you still deserved more. People like you make law abiding fisherman sick. You people ruin things for us by making all fisherman look bad. Sorry but I get a bit sensitive about these kinds of things.

Rockabilly you fish in Eastern Washington??? What parts?

Holy crap, I've heard about people driving game. I talked to the DNR once when he was checking my hunting license about it. Hate to be caught doing that. I live in Iowa and every now and then we get an Elk or Moose that wanders into our state. And usually someone always shoots it. Course, they forget that the DNR tracks the animal once they enter the state and the person usually gets a hefty fine, jail time and everything taken away. Vehicle included.

But, for the topic creator, I would suggest buying a license and going to court. Plead guilty and make it a point to show that you bought a license. The chance of getting the ticket removed is slim to nil. But, if you show that you at least want to try and be legal the judge will most likely cut the cost of the ticket down. If you go into the court room with an attitude you won't get anywhere. And the DNR agent has to show up too. So maybe if you show that you truly were ignorant about the facts (no offense) he can suggest a lesser fine. And, if he doesn't show up (which happens often) the judge may be lenient just because of that.

so far we've just been to Chapman lake and Williams Lake, about 10 miles n/w of cheney. but we're going to try sprague lake and many others before the seasons up.

the last few summers I have done a lot of fishing in Moses Lake, Potholes Reservior, Soda Lake, and 1 lake that I will not mention. Its my secret hole I guess you could say. This summer I am going commercial salmon fishing in Alaska so I won't get much time over there this year. I would like to make a trip or 2 up to Banks lake. I hear that is the real hotspot.

Heck I say screw it and do not pay it. After all you are 17...what will they do over a fishing ticket...never mind how screwed up of a world we live in they would probably give you the death penalty even though there is an amendment saying the punishment has to fit the crime...I say take it to court and plead your case. Be very calm and nice about it and explain to the judge. After all, you are inoccent until proven guilty right?....or did they forget about that one too......

Oh and $109 is crazy for a ticket... Last year when I lived in Illinois, a fishing license was $13 good from March to March. Seattle, Washington huh...That ranger must have thought he was in Washington D.C....He probably thought you were getting smart with him when you asked about having to take a test...I think you tested his patience..Well the little patience he had.

On some places, an unpaid ticket can prevent you from renewing your vehicle registration or driver's license....in others, you can end up with jail time or community work...and in most, failure to pay on time will fetch you additional late penalties, so that if forced to pay it in a couple of years, it might be more like $300.

Yeah, sure...you have never been caught speeding, have you? Heck, where I live, failure to pick up after your dog nets you a $250 ticket.
