well,I hope I havent screwed up already but i went to a large chain pet store and purchased a 10 gal setup and two small tiger oscars and then went on the internet and did some reserch and found out that I needed at least a 55 gal set up so I spent the rent money and all my spare change and got one and set it up and did some more internet surfing and now realize the I may not have a large enough setup tell me it aint so ! I have two 1 1/2 inch tigar oscars and a 4 in dojo loach I am hoping his larger size will keep him alive do i have to much fish and not enough aquarium? also i gave my 10 gal to my wife and she has 4 guppies two male and two female ( i now know they breed like rabbits) but we will cross that bridge when it happens she plans to add 4 neon fish and she also has a small catfish of some sort in their will her tank be to full. any help will be appreciated

Read read read and read! the more you learn about the hobby the less mistakes you will make, sorry to say but the oscars get huge. Why don't you get rid of them and get something else? A 55 gal. you could do a lot with it. Just make up your mind and good luck to you.

Yes, I would return the oscars. Read up on fishless cycling, and durring that time, plan what you want to do with the tank. I would reccomend at least 90 to 125 gallons for two oscars. Dont get discoruged, just do research and ask questions, and you will be fine.

Sorry. I am pretty sure that 55 gallon Is too amall for the oscars. Not sure about the loach. look for "profiles" of fish you are interested in. They generally mention adult size and MINIMUM tank reqiuirement.
You can do Lots and Lots of different things with a 55. I'd suggest that you just slow up a bit and start at the begginning. (and return your fish) learn about how to cycle the tank and about what fish you could keep in there.
RE Your wifes tank. Try to find out what sort of catfish it is. That makes a BIG difference.
How long has the tank been set up? Ever hear of cycling?
I know you must be flat broke by now but you will really want to have a Good test kit for your new aquarium to keep your fish alive through the cycling process.
and, yeah, readreadread *S

The good news here is that when the guppies start breeding like rabbits the oscars will have plenty to eat ...

OK, that was bad.

I'd return the oscars too. Way back in the day, a LSF sold me a few baby oscars for a 10 gal tank. I still have nightmares about that scenerio, but I ended up with several different size tanks because I kept buying them larger housing.

Definately see if they'll take the oscars back. There's some pretty good info at the start page for the boards on fish. You can still do some really cool things with a 55.

hey mate dont worry about the oscars yet if you want to make a business out of them when they get bigger but i hear you have two of them hey they are going to fight soon enough and one of them will be dead like everyone is saying they get very large and if you have a 3 inch oscar within time it will double in size within 3 moths so whach what your doing there

i have a red oscar which is now around 4 and a half inch in a sep tank to my other fish and you get a certain bond with your oscar within a while and yu will probs get a bigger tank if you get to the poin that you just cannot sell it

good luck

lonely oscar

well I got rid of one oscar and the loach died so now i have one lonely oscar in a 55 gal tank i am waiting for the cycle to consider adding more fish what would be compatible with my oscar also i added anougher filter as i have heard how messy oscars are I now have 600 gph capabilaty with both of them on high .wife picked up five neons for her 10 gal so she now has 4 guppies 5 neons and one small cory catfish shes maxed out I think but I am going to keep a close watch on her water for her if any body has any suggestions please let me know

Your oscar should be OK for a while in a 55, if he makes it thru the cycle ok. Add some tank mates now, knowing that they will eventually become lunch. I'd throw in 6 or 8 guppys, and figure out what you want to use as a bottom feeder/scavenger/cleanup crew.

I.D. shark????????

I have a very unhappy I.D. shark. It doesn't have enough space (5.5 gallon tank) to swim around in. I was going to get a 100 gallon tank but I can't financially do it right at this moment (student) I'm not sure if anything under 100 gallons (about 55 gallons I could do) is fair to the fish b/c from what I have read they can grow big and like lots of room to swim. Thats just the start of my problems. I also have a snail ( small ) and I think It had babies or I just have some kind of bugs in my tank. I don't think either one would be good. What do I do?????????????????????????? The fish store is no help. I've called! I also had a chinese algea eater vanish. I have no idea where it went, looked everywhere???? What could have happened?
