I have decided to build an in ground pond. I would like it to be large-ish and I would love it to have some plants in and around it. Also plan to use natural stones and build a water fall. I saw a stream flowing into one pond but not sure I have the right place for that kinda set up.

I have lots of questions. I think the first is How to Filter it? I intend to go about 3 feet deep. The Size will probably be limited by the filter itself. I saw this link in another thread http://www.skippysstuff.com/biofiltr.htm . Any thoughts on that filter? The other thing to consider is I plan to build this in front/side of my house. I have a lot of room but want it to be somewhere I can always enjoy it. I don't spent much time behind the house.

So I guess I want to ask your opinion. What would you do? I need to be able to conceal/hide the filter as it will be in a very visible area. I could always plant shrubs around it.

I originally was going to DIG a 100X200 foot pond but there is to much sand in my area and it wont hold water.:angryfire: So now I have scaled down to a liner style pond.

Thanks in Advance for your help. :headbang2:

I was linked tot his one. http://www.tadege.com/wakinfilter.htm

Both of he DIY FIlters I found sit Above ground. I need to read more. Not sure if a Skimmer is needed or just a bottom drain? SO manny questions:help2:

Well I am also going to hide my Filter behind the waterfall. I have decided to put the pond in a spot where my land sloped down a bit so I can dig the filter down into the dirt and still be above the pods lvl.

I have bin reading and am leaning twards a bog type pond that will flow into the main fish pond with a Tub filter next to the bog that will be the waterfall into the main pond. Also thinking of a bottom train and a Skimmer. I am guessing I will need 3 pumps. I am thinking about 20000 gallons tottal. We will see?

If possible its best to have the water flow through the filter with gravity into a sump so the pump is after the filter, if that makes sense?
It saves having to have a pre-filter on the pump. Plus pumps smashes up silt into very fine particles which are harder to filter from the water.

Google 'koi pond filters diy' there's loads of very good info on the web.

Try to set the skimmer directly across from the falls.
