so i dont know why it would but my smaller male cherry barbs has ick. this is in my heavily planted 55. can i add aquarium salt or will it hurt my plants? the temp is already as high as it can go. i havent added anything new and water params should be good. so what should i do?

I would use some nox ich or some sort of ich meds but use a 1/4 of what they recommend on the instructions and see if it works if not. Try it again and put it in a lil more. You could also prolly get a bucket and put some tank water and mayb a few plants and if you have it a airstone to make him feel comfortable and treat him that way. I would NOT recommend salt for a planted tank. I know salt has never been nice to any vegetation whether in water or on land. Maybe if your plants were brackish.

If you do go the salt route don't bother with aquarium salt. Plain old table salt will work just as well and it is cheaper, they're the same thing. I've successfully treated ich multiple times with table salt.

+1^

i'd do the bucket method for normal dose and then dose everything in main tank with 1/4-1/2 dose, preferably 1/2 so its stronger initially?

good luck, did u recently purchase?

well the only problem with that is its probably already spread to everybody else. does the nox ich stuff mess with the bio filter?

nope no recent purchases went into the tank, and everything in there was quarentined.

Ive used it in one of my 40g planted tank, cause I had some blue tetras get it. It is fully planted. There should be enough bio in your planted tank that it shouldnt even matter. I didnt see any changes on my ph and ammonia meters either. I didnt even take anything out of my filter either just did it. My tank has about or over 20 species and no one was affected either. The ick went away in 3 days.

wow where can i get that? i have mardel copper safe but it kills your bio filter and i dont think i have enough for a 55.

Im sure you can get it at a lfs or google it nox ich and something will come up. Its cheap. I also keep cherry shrimp in that tank and it didnt bother them either. You can check the tank out in my main tank journal if you want.
