important please help my cichlids

i checked my ph ammonia level nitrate the water hardness and everthing is fine my fish are at the bottom of the tank and not swimming they move around from time to time but they have not been eating the food ive been giving them . i have convict cichlids . i know that brown eggs are fertilized but the mom has lost her nice colors and has stopped looking after and protecting her eggs i am worried that all my fish are going to die. if anyone can help after reading these types of conditions please let me know if there is anything you could suggest

your post if very confusing..... what do eggs have to do with it? are your fish spawning and NOW they are acting like this? you need to give more info on your tank specs. what size? water conditions? I know you said they were fine but cichlids are tricky and what is fine water for some fish might not be fine water for cichlids i guess. it is hard to help when you give a cryptic post.

my tank is 20 gallons i have pair of convict cichlids the cichlid mother was protecting her eggs and now she lost her stripes that they get when spawnig . she has stop protecting the eggs . i have found out the conditions my nitrate levels are at 0 which is safe i am using a 5 in 1 test strip. nitrite is bewtween 0 & 0.5 safe my ppm total hardness is between 25 & 50 safe total alkalinity is bewtween 120 & 180 ideal range safe my ph is bewtween 6.8 & 7.2 is safe range for convict cichlids i looked it up i should have been more specific

I'm afraid I don't know alot about cichlids but I can tell you that the 5 in 1 test strips are not very accurate. To get more accurate test results, invest in a good liquid test kit. (Besides being way more accurate, they're kinda fun. Reminds me of chem class with the test tubes and stuff :dance2: )

what is the temp of the tank. with high temps you must increase aeration. the water will not hold oxygen if it is hot

she said nitrate is at 0 and nitrite between 0 and 0.5. ANY level of nitrite and amonia are toxic to fish. You also should find out asap what your amonia is, even if you have to take a water sample to the LFS. Have them give you an exact number, not just "fine". If you have 0 nitrates, unless this is a heavily planted tank, it sounds like the tank is not cycled. How long has it been set up? How big are the convicts? Read the cycling posts in the stickys at the top of the page.
If anything you should do a water change of about 50% immediately. Forget about the eggs for now, you need to concentrate on the fish and keep them alive :)

20g are also not large enough for a pair of cons... 29g are minimum.

thank you all for the help

i going to the store to get the supplies for test so the tests can be more specific i am going to do a water change . what test kits are the best for getting perfect tests . oh and by the way the eggs are moving and they look like pepper and the mom is suck them up and spitting them in a corner the tank temp is at 80 and according to what i have heard that is a good temp for the eggs
