Hey everybody! I am planning on buying some daphnia and culturing them, but I am stuck on what variety to get. I am going to be feeding these primarily to some Brichardi juveniles. So, which will it be: Magna, Pulex, or Moina?

They are all pretty much the same. Last summer I mix my with russian red daphnia. The russia daphnia die out in the winter. I don't really know what mine are. They just grow outside for me. They come in all sizes outside. Try to get it locally because they can give you more. Online ships very little amount only.

I get them all the time in the buckets I collect mosquito larvae in. They come in as dried eggs on birds. Btw you left out Ceriodaphnia dubia, which if I was going to mono culture would be my first choice. They're the smallest type.

I am not so concerned with the difficulty of the culture, I am more concerned with the size. As far as I can tell the size goes from C. dubia, Moina, D. pulex, and then D. magna. Which ones would be the best size for fish in the 1.5"-3" range?

I would go with moina daphnia because your not feeding small fry. Your feeding juveniles. You will realize that these daphnia are very small. You can get the russian red daphnia. They are the biggest. I am not sure which group it goes with.

I am pretty sure Russian reds are a variety of D. magna. So which should I get, moina or magna? Or maybe something else entirely?
