Ich and a very large pond.

Hello! I have a pond my grandfather made in the 80's that has to be about 1 square acre or more. We have been buying koi to put in it to help clear out the anacharis and the last few baby koi we got we kept in a 55 gallon container pond for a little while to enjoy before loosing them into the abyss. Well it appears that upon closer inspection a few of them have ich. My question is, in a pond that size would it be a bad idea to loose them into the large pond, will they give all the existing koi/mosquito fish ich, and I'll have an ich epidemic on my hands? Or is the pond large enough that it isn't as dangerous to fish? If that is possible, I dunno. Or should I just keep them isolated and treat them? There are 10 in there and with a weak filter, so I would rather not keep that many messy fish in such a small container for too long.
Any help or suggestions would be great.
Thanks in advance!

Yeah I was thinking about it, so I have a couple of spare aquariums and filters that I can set up for the ichy fishes and I'll try the saltwater method of clearing it up. Thanks!

yeah, treat of course.
If it spreads in your big pond it will take a small fortune to clean it up.

In a pond that size it's pretty unlikely they'll spread ich to the other fish. Ich is more common in smaller enclosed system because of the way it spreads. The ich has to drop off to the bottom to complete its life cycle and then find a fish. In such a large pond it would have a really hard time taking hold unless the pond was MASSIVELY stocked.

But just to be sure I would treat them.

It is my understanding that ich is a good indicator of stress, which is one reason (along with overstocking) that outbreaks are common on freshly delivered livestock shipments at stores. It's a fairly common parasite that a healthy fish should have a good chance of sloughing off.

My hope would be that your established population would never be bothered.

If a simple, inexpensive treatment can save hours of work and stress, I would say, "treat them so that you won't have regrets later."

^That too

It's also good to quarantine for awhile to make sure nothing else shows up though, that appears viral or bacterial, because that CAN be spread to fish even in a large pond. While ich is easily fought off by healthy fish in a large body of water, some diseases are not. Especially if the fish in that body of water don't have an immunity.

1 ACRE POND! thats crazy!

As for the ick, its best to treat first. If you let them go they COULD wreak havoc on your mini-ecosystem.

Treat or cull......quick cure should do the trick. I would halve them (5 fish per 55 gallon) for treatment. How large are these fish?
