I'm having an outbreak of ich after the addition of my clown loaches. I'va already lost a loach, and x-ray fish... I've done 3 doses of Jungle Ich Clear (using 1/2 tab per 10 gal), and raised the heat to 84. Nothing seems to get better.. all of the fish are very sick looking, only one has polyps, and my loaches are extremly slow and look thin. Is there a different med i should be using?

I've done 25% water changes between dosings of ich Clear

Best,
Evan

Raise the temp a little higher to 85-86F and add one tablespoon of salt for every 10g. Water changes every day might help also.

Personally, after one treatment at half strength, I would do 50% water change and continue with a full strength treatment.
PumaWards advice is good too. If you add 1 TBsp/10gal, make sure to make it up when you do water changes. Doing 50% water changes makes the calculations easier, and you remove more of the free swimming tomites.
If you haven't already done so, try a search for ich and/or check out www.skepticalaquarist.com

Good luck!

thanks!

my fish (loaches, corys specifically) are acting EXTREMELY lethargic... half the time i think they're dead... they are NOT normally like this... is this part of ich? the ones that are acting dead don't all have spots on them.....

The loaches could just be tired. They rest by laying on their sides. Its perfectly normal for clown loaches to do this. Its hard to say for sure though. It might be because of the ich or the chemicals in the ich medicine. Salt is the way to go...always.

Please read this for treatment of ich.

But ignor the "important note" at the bottom. Ive used that stuff every time for ich and its works great.

this is definitly not the normal loach sleeping position....

1 of them is fine, the other two are keeled over, backs curved, pretty much dead in the gravel, you couldn't tell that they were alive unless you litterally picked them up out of the water and they squirmed a little... i used coppersafe, salt, and heat, and water change... any chance for them to recover? i'm incredibly upset.... i hate ich :(

I hope they get better. I would do another water change soon and stop using the coppersafe. Salt and heat is all that is needed. Remember to replace the salt with the water changes. It may take a week or longer for it to completely clear up. Good luck
