Hi all,
I have a 75 gal planted tank, with a dozen tiger barbs, eight silver tipped tetras, three corys, one bolivian ram, and one red-tailed shark. Recently I tried introducing three small clown loaches. Evidently they were carrying ich because within a week they were covered with the tell-tale signs. I raised the temperature to 82-83 F and started medicating with aquari-sol immediately but it was too late for the loaches; they died very quickly. Since then, all the other fish appear fine. However, the barbs often 'flash', that is, they suddenly dip down and rotate horizontally and brush their sides (gills?) by a plant leaf or rock. Is this a sign that they are still mildly affected by the parasite, i.e. are ich trophonts still present in their gills, and simply not visible to the naked eye? Should I continue medicating and keep the elevated temperature until this behaviour disappears?
Cheers,
Dave
