Well everyone survived the night... my family and are shocked at how fast things went downhill. 24 hours ago, everyone looked so marvelous and we were admiring them.

6 hours later the white spots had appeared, but they were still eating. 5 hours later they weren't able to swim, clenched fins, fast breathing, no color, rolling in the current.

Early this morning I went to check on them, none stuck to the filter, but no real appetite. (the gourami ate well). I started adding the salt and discovered each small dose I put in the tank was making them swim a little straighter, color up a bit more, until finally they all came out and started eating. I could the the Otos were fit to be to be tied with the salt, and they aren't really eating anymore, just swimming spastically, but they are still alive.

I'm leaving the door closed and the tank light off (the corner lamp is on in the room)... (WHY is it businessmen on their cell phones can't talk in normal volumes >< And must they test surround sound at volume 11?!?!)

I returned home just now, and checked on everyone... the gourami was living in the clay pot, barely moving. (He had looked fine earlier.) I confirmed he had one spot on him. The others were hiding in various places, and came out when they saw me. Fin clamping, occaisonally dashing on the rocks.

I am very glad that I got started on the salt treatment last Saturday, and hit it especially yesterday, at the first signs... it had only been one or two neons. Now almost all the neons have it, the gourami, and even the otos have spots. It's a full on invasion.

I'm only bummed that since I've been treating with the salt treatment (and it's not skimpy doses), and the temp's at 83, that MORE fish got infected between last night and today?!

are you sure nobody died in the bathroom there before you got the house?

seriously, you're doing everything right - it has to be a curse. any powerlines right over the roof? ultrasonic vibrations killing bacteria and stressing the fish?

^^^LMAO^^^

Your fish will get worse before they get better..In a few days they should start to look better and act better. You are doing everything right..

Well actually *lol*, the bacteria levels seem fine. Clearly the ick came from the store, and was waiting for a period where one of them felt a little off his game, and boom, (I guess.)

I just wanted to verify that it will get worse, even during treatment, before it gets better, and I think that is the case from what I'm hearing, during the subsequent stages of hatching, etc.

you could try rid-ich.

I have really sad news... really upsetting, but I just lost the gourami... the supposedly healthiest one? :( must have been in the last 10 minutes or so. God this is awful.

I am asking for further assistance. Tonight is Day 6 of this Ich, and there are still new white spots presenting themselves. I am positive I have done as much salt as they will handle... I had to resuscitate one neon, although quite frankly he acts like I keep interrupting him from his dying, and it's probably only a matter of time. Now also, an oto is appearing to be very much on the brink. Everyone else, although swimming tipped down occasionally, are eating/trying to eat and even appear to have grown some.

I have the temp set at 80 as indicated by the experts (they felt with the salt in the tank, heat would be more of a stresser). Last night I did a water change, which they tolerated fine, to suck up everything off the gravel, not only to get up some food since they're having a hard time getting to it, but to try and get up some of the ich that might have been there.

What else can I do to kill this ich? How long will it take for the salt to kill it? Will they survive?

best way to treat is the way she is doing with salt.

IMO this not true...neon tetras and gouramis do not appreciate salt at all. I know everyone always says "that they have used this treatment for years with no problems", but I also know just as many people who have used salt and their fish died. Of course they always blame it on the disease.
