Ich Medication

Swan Crane Svc.
I am trying an ich medication that is supposedly "natural." I was wondering if anyone else has heard of it and what type of success you had with it. It is called "Ich Attack" with the active ingredient of Naphthoquinon.

I am trying this because I do not want to stain the silicone of my tank and this stuff does not stain it but I want to be sure it is going to help.

In the article section read the one about ich. I suggest the salt treatment- 1-tsp salt per gallon of water. it has worked wonders on my tetras, but plants are probably best removed and kept in fresh water.

Thanks for your reply. Yep, I am familiar with the salt treatment. Well, the challenge is all the plants. I mean A LOT of plants. I have a 180 gallon and after adding 3-1/2 cups of salt, the result was making the salt company some more money. My guppies can tolerate more salt but the plants cannot. I tried raising the temperature too. I think I have more than one type of parasite and my best bet at this point is to medicate. In my search for a non-staining medication that won't harm plants, fish or snails, I have turned up an unfamiliar one to myself as stated in my first message. So, I really want to know if there is any info on that medication.

again something that was on the discussion: you might try moving all the fish, instead of the plants/snails etc. Ich can't live without fish, so with them gone your plants can live happily in the tank by themselves for a while. put the fish in a seperate tank and treat them there for 10-14 days. you don't even need a seperate tank.. I used a big bucket to quarentine a fish, and now my plants are in it. as long as you have a heater and airater, everything should be fine. if you have skitterish fish, I'd give them some fake plants (if there is nothing else, they will even use a net for shelter! I found that funny when my fish did)

I've used the salt treatment on my planted 40 and didn't lose any plants. The short term of the treatment (a month of so in my case) along with the low levels of salt are not harmful to plants that are healthy to begin with.

I have also used salt with plants no problem, but as said in the articlae, I don't pretend to be a plant expert. I just know it didn't hurt any of my plants.
I have not seen any information on ,Naphthoquinon, but can do some looking around today as I am still actively researching more info on this subject.

daveedka, I would really appreciate any information that you can come up with. Just so you know, I am in the third day of treatment with the stuff and so far there have been no signs of stress. I am waiting for one of the guppies to drop fry for the real test since the fry perish from pintail the quickest. That will be the real result for me if this stuff can save the babies.

paccula, thanks for your help, but removing the fish from the tank is not feasible by any stretch of the imagination.

Oriongirl, I have tried salt up to the point where the plants were looking stressed and it did not knock out the parasite problem I have. I think I am dealing with more than just simple ich. There are multiple parasites with varied resistance.

For all who read this: Treatment of this stuff is for one week. I will keep you all posted as to the efficacy of this product as of Tuesday.
