Hey!
So I have 20 Tiger Barbs in my 60G.
Last morning i saw one of the tiger barbs break into ich spots... and so on the advice of a few frnds here and some reading, I added about 8 Tblsps of rock salt and tried to raise the temperature by using a 60W bulb (from India, dont need a heater here, so never had one)
By evening i also got the Anti Ich medicine and added about 15-20 ml....

By that time i noticed another fish just starting to have a breakout of white spots at its tail fins...

I switched off the bulb in the night though, and it seems i shudnt have done dat cuz today morning i see signs of onset of ich to the other healthy looking fishes, no spots yet but they are scratching themselves off the wood, filter tube and tank walls... On second thought the temperature here right now is around 25-26 C and mebbe the water temperature could only go down to room temp...

Also the anti-ich has stained the gravel and the wood a bit... i'm not sure if it loses its effectiveness over time so do i need to refill on the medicine daily?

Further please advice on the WC and feeding and the course of action from here on...

Regards
Mohit

I just kinda returned from work to check on my tigers and i gotta say these tigers are fighters!

The terribly spotted one has now started schooling with my other barbs and dats a great sign of it feeling better than before...

Please let me know if theres something more that i can do on this issue..

I would follow the instructions on the medication. raising the temp just speeds up the lifecycle to speed treatment. I would treat for at least 10 striaght days.

The idea of treating ich is the salt and meds stops the eggs from hatching. So while raising the temp speeds up the process it just makes you realize how bad they were quicker. The fish get worse because the tiny spots are now larger and more adult parasites on your fish. But they will lay eggs then die. The object of the meds is to make sure those eggs never hatch.

Read this if you haven't already.
