I started a thread in the Newbie Freshwater Forum but I thought I'd post here as well seeing you are all very familiar with cichlids. Can anyone tell me if my Pink Convict has Ich? He was recently tormented by his tank mate (who is now gone) and he's not doing very well. He's such a pale color that I can't tell if the white spots near his rear fin is Ich (or something else). Any help is greatly appreciated. His tank mate (a Jack Dempsey) beat him up pretty badly and it all happened quite suddenly. He's looking really bad right now.

When I checked the Convict this morning he is looking worse and his fins are in really bad shape so I am now thinking he may have fin rot. Is that possible? If so, what do I do for that? Where would I get antibiotics to treat him?

supgourami, why wouldn't I keep a Dempsey and Convict together? Seriously, was that a mistake? When we bought the Dempsey we told the gal at the pet shop we'd be putting it with a Convict and she said it would be fine. They got along quite well for nearly a year and we had no problems.

i see no fin rot either. more likely is simply the fact that he took a severe 'beating' and is now suffering the effects. there's nothing you can do for him but keep the water very clean and hope he pulls through.

Me and my dad used to own about 100 convicts almost a year ago... im trying to get back into convicts again and I say yours looks fine. He may just be a little shaken up from the Dempsey... when you put the Dempsey in the tank, the convict probably already had a territory. He was most likely trying to defend it and lost the battle... Good luck with your fish.
