Ok I have 6 Black Skirt Tetras and I noticed some white spots on one of them in the tail. At first I thought it was just food particles but I didn't rule out Ich. I have been checking my tank and everything seems in order but now ALL 6 of my Tetras have white spots. I have experienced this before with another tank I had. I am pretty sure it is Ich but it seems to only affect the Black Tetras. Is it something in these fish that makes them so weak to Ich? I am going to treat it today any suggestions on what I should use? Thanks in advance. Also I will try to get pics posted to show you what I mean.

where did u buy them???
If it was petco it most likly is ich or sumin like that if u got them recently. If not recently, then it's stil ich but it may be the water, check the temp, ammonia, and PH those are usually the main causes of ich.

I bought them from a LFS. The PH, NH3/NH4, NO2 levels are normal and the temp is kept between 78 and 82 degrees. None of my other fish seem to be infected by it, only the Tetras. I put a ph buffer(7.0) in the tank and I also have live plants and I add plant supplement every week. What should I do to treat it? I haven't been in the "loop" lately and I don't know what is good now-a-days. Thanks again.

ok I use "Ick Clear" from Jungle. They worked on my oscar in one treatment. Depending on how big your tank is or not (anything over 30 gallons) you probably will want to buy 2 boxes, they come with 8 tablets and 1 tablet treats 10 gallons of water, unless you think you'll get it overwith in one treatment. then only get one box, other wise get 2. I think their only like 5 bucks each

I'm using Ich Clear for my current Ich infestestation (Dang Platy's I got from a new fish store, not my trusted LFS) and I have to halve the dose because of my catfish. I've done 3 treatments 3 days in a row so far and still see the little white spots. Sure hope this stuff works soon! And what a pain in the arse to have to do a 25% water change every night! ARGH

Good luck with your ich!

what else is in the tank? if you have no scale-less fish in there you can raise the temp up to low to mid 80s and add some salt ( i believe its 1 tbsp per gallon)

Ok I have a 29 gallon tank and I think all my fish cold take a temp increase with no problem. I'll bump it up to 84 to 86 degrees tonight and add salt. If that doesn't work then I will buy the Ich Clear. Thanks for the help. :)

The higher temperature reduces the life cycle of the ich parasite to just a few days. This way you can kill any just hatching parasites untill they are all gone within the few days.

1 Teaspoon per gallon of salt is appropriate for catfish etc. 1 Tablespoon per gallon if you don't have salt sensitive creatures or plants.

be sure to maintain correct dosage after water changes, and then water change out salt or meds when done.

in the right situations salt is a good ich medicine.

good luck
:)
