So the 12g tank has ich.... I have searched the forums. Raising the temp to 84 and adding 1tbs salt/5g and 50% water changes with gravel cleaning...

Anything else I should be doing to get rid of the white spots...

Thanks for everyone's support. I know there are lots of redundant newbie posts... I did the search and read first. Just want some encouragement that I didn't miss anyting

I would raise your temp to at least 86. Also, keep the lights mostly off if possible (not possible with live plants). But other than that, you're good.

After three days of seeing no more spots, you should be ok. But I would give it a week just in case.
Remember to replace salt with your water changes. For instance, if you do a 5 gal water change, add another tablespoon of salt to the fresh water (make sure it's dissolved before putting in the tank).

One full week after all visibles signs of ich have gone.

I agree.

After that I just do normal water changes without adding salt back.

Not to hijack the thread but generally how long should it take before you no longer see the spots on the fish? Assuming it's a pretty heavily infested tank...

Hmmm... Well, I've just been doing the elevated temps and water changes so maybe that makes a difference. From the research I'd done (when it first showed up in my tank last week) I'd read that the salt wasn't required for the treatment to work and with loaches and lots of plants in the tank I wanted to try it without salt first. It's cleareed up on almost all of my fish except for my loaches... But it's only been 7 days and everyone seems to be doing okay so I'll give it a couple more days and see what happens I guess... Thanks (and again, sorry for hijacking the thread!)
