I've been sick since the weekend and haven't seen my fish in the basement ( they've been fed, no worries), I just went to change water and clean everything and noticed ick on a few of them.

I know how to treat it, of course, but I wondered if the normal Ick-away, or Ick-be-gone was better than Epsom salt?

If not, how much salt per gallon should I use?
These are goldfish and otto's, if that matters.
I've never done the salt treatment before, I just wanted to know if anyone had experience with it?

Epsom salt can be used as a substitute for aquarium salt for other purposes (never used.. only heard)

but for ich you want normal table salt

Your otos aren't going to tolerate the salt very well.

Epsom is only to be used for bloat and as a laxative for the fish. It won't do a thing for ick. As Ice said, table or preferably Kosher salt, Kosher does not have the additives that non-Kosher salt has.

I use straight table salt, iodized or not...2-3 teaspoons per gallon, with raised temp.
