Add new fishes to my tank and now lots of fishes got ick. Thinking of doing a two weeks salt bath to rid of the ick.

If I add 4 table spoon of aquarium salt per 10 gallons. Would that hurt the plants? I mainly have amazon sword plats.

Thanks

I don't think it will kill them, but ive heard it can stunt their growth. Someone more experienced with salt would be able to tell you better, but from my experience personally, it doesn't really harm them. I couldn't say if it stunts them, because i had plants in my quarintine tank with salt added, but the plants soon went in the garbage, as i had too many. So i don't know what the long term effects are.

My guess is though, if you have something like crypts, they would probably melt. Just assuming though, and again, im not sure...........

Plants are fine for short term salt treatment. I do remember my cabomba didn't fare too well but I'm putting that one down to lack of light at the time.

Still, even though I really like my planted tanks, the fish health has to come first and the ich has to be taken out.

The only Ich treatment I ever do is in QT tanks, which also serve as plant grow-out tanks for offsets and divisions. Salt treatment for Ich with higer temps at the same time has never caused any plant damage in my tanks, but I do not use as much salt as you mentioned. I stick to one teaspoon NaCl per gallon of actual water volume.
