To remove it you can just remove the leaves or you can try to pull it off the leaves but I have had better luck just removing the leaves.
As for light, I don't really know if you need more or less light or if you need to increase or decrease your ferts. How long are you leaving them on for now? Someone with more experience will need to step in.
