hi I was wondering what kind of fertilizers were the most ideal for waterlilies and other pond plants such as water hyacinths

they will but if you really want to allow the plant to take off then root tabs or even nutrient rich substrate like eco complete/flourite will do as well. Also an established tank will help 2 since there are plenty of nutrients for it in the substrate.

Im sure the plant does take in some nutrients from the water.. but like amazon swords and aponogetons they are root feeders.

Im sure it can be done with column dosing. However, they are heavy root feeders.
