Ideas for a 55g tank?

What species of pleco did you consider so far? If you cannot get females, stick with one male dwarf gourami only. Kribs and zebra danios are fine.

I don't have the list with me, but some of them are Clown plecs, Columbian Zebra plecs (not the same as the banned & expensive Zebra plec), and a bunch of others that were L numbers.

Really? Angels wouldn't eat cardinals? Well, anyway, the more I think about it, the more attractive that bright splash of reds and greens of GloFish would look so cool against the black sand and decor I'm planning. Plus, if I decide to go with less dramatically colored fish like black angels or something, they will really accent the tank.:cool2:

GloFish are genetically modified!!!! I just googled them and found this.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GloFish

I wouldn't touch them with a 10 foot pole. You'd be supporting the whole unethical scene of genetically engineered, sex changed, tattooed and dyeing of poor innocent creatures to suit the whim of fish owners and fish sellers who don't care what suffering they cause in an attempt to make a dollar off a novelty item.

There are many beautiful fish available. There is no need for such bizarre alteration.

And no, angelfish will not eat an adult cardinal. They're just a bit too big.

there is no suffering involved in the creation of glofish. . . . the gene responsible for the coloration is inserted into the fish egg, and modified fish breed true. while the ethics of buying them are up for debate, they are not mutilated or tortured to produce the color.

Actually, they are modified genetically, but they are now breeding true. They are not being tortured in any way.

Anyway, I now have a 75 gallon tank. I still have to get the stand, but otherwise I'm pretty much ready to go except for fish. Ideas?

So now what? I'm bidding on a pleco on Aquabid, but it is unidentified. Does anyone know what it is? Here's the link: http://www.aquabid.com/cgi-bin/auction/auction.cgi?fwcatfishp&1219884613.

i would guess peckoltia species, can't go any farther off the top of my head.

go to planet catfish, click on cat-e-log, search by genus, and you can look at the thumbnails of all the peckoltia cats.

I did start looking there yesterday, but there are so many kinds! :jaw:
Keep the suggestions coming! Thanks!:help:

Well so would I! I only bid on it because I didn't really think that I would win it. But I did. I've put feelers out on 3 forums (two that are specifically for plecs!) to make an ID. There are only a handful that appear to be close to what I've won, and none of them get over 6". Right now it's 2", and if I find out that it is not one of these species and it will outgrow the tank, I will sell it right away. Given the demand for plecs that aren't common plecs, I'm sure I'll have no problems.

Many people suggested it's an L387, and it does look quite like that. I'm still not 100% with that ID, so does anyone agree with it?
