ideas for a 75

what filtration is on the tank right now? what is the water change schedule? 2 oscars are fine in a 75 if there is enough filtration and you do enough water changes. a 75 isnt enough for one if you dont have enough filtration or do enough water changes. tank stocking is tricky and tank size is only one aspect of many things that need to be considered when determining what all you can add. my 75 has a fluval 405, 2 whisper 60s, and gets 75% weekly water changes. it will be enough for when he is full grown at 18-20" if he gets that big. remember that whatever a filter claims it can handle "up to" is really about double what it can actually handle, and thats for fish that arent even as dirty as big cichlids. 2 oscars, an oscar and a small school of spotted silver dollars, or what you have now would all be fine combinations if you do it right. i agree that the common pleco should go unless you happen to like it a lot. they produce a lot of waste and dont even take care of the algae for you after a certain size. for tanks with big cichlids the best algae control is your hand with an algae pad in it. what other tanks do you have? if you want another oscar and cant find one big enough you may be able to grow one out in another tank until it catches up with the other one, but it would be much better to get one that is already at least 6", slightly bigger would be better. entirely rearranging the tank will help with any problems with adding new fish. big cihlids love PVC pipe T-connectors, so adding one or two of those and removing other decor would help throw off the original oscar's territory. the point is if you are running one filter that goes "up to" 75 gallons and do a 25% water change once a month, its not enough for the one you have in there now. but if you are willing to greatly overfilter and do big frequent water changes it wouldnt be an issue for you to add to that tank.
you said up to value meant double did you mean half?

i think what you have is enough.
you say he has enough fish in there already but you have double the fish in your tanks which are smaller. I cant believe you have all those fish in those small of tanks and you are telling someone else they have enough. You are well overstocked yourself one jag in a 60 gallon is ridiculous let alone two.

right now i have for filtration a marinland 350.I do water changes 25% 3 times a week.,

no, the "up to" claim of filters is really about double what they can actually handle. so an "up to" 60 gallon filter is claiming double what it can actually handle (30 gallons). so cut what they claim in half. look at from one side or the other, just remember a whisper 60 doesnt do a 55 on its own.

I have a sixty gallon tank with 750 gallons of filtration per hour plus the bi weekly 25% water change. so yeah I should have a bigger tank and I have no excuss for keeping them this long in a sixty and I will, by this friday, be getting a 150, plus I will be getting a Magnum 350 to add to my 150. that would mean I will hav 1100 gallons of filtration per hour for a 150 gal. so in theory I will be filtering out 18.33 gallons per minute.

25% weekly water change is kind of small. all of my tanks get 75% weekly, including the 150. what are all those filters rated "up to"? many filters that have a high gph are simply moving the water for aquarists who subscribe to a minimum gph guide for their filtration. when really you need filters that do more with the water while they have it, not just get it in and back out asap. rather than a magnum i would add on a fluval 405. setup right they are the best filters i have ever had to deal with. which is why all my tanks over 20 gallons have at least one fluval.

well Im glad you are upgrading I was not concerned with the filteration it was the size of the tank. a 60 gallon is too smallfor just one jag alone no matter how much filteration and water changes. It does sound like you have a pretty good plan. you will be turning the tank volume over 7.3 times an hour that is what you want to look at too. I recommend 5-7 times an hour you are on the high end of that you will be ok unless you overstock the 150 gallon then you will want to turn it over 10-12 times an hour.
