Ideas for Fish Store

Well, many people want to see the usuals: tetras, swordtails, mollies, platys, etc.

I personally like stores w/ plenty of oddballs and preds: African Butterflys, bichirs, ropefish, etc.

Also, I'd suggest having a good variety of cichlids.

I'd like to see great emphasis on invertebrates (especially Macrobrachium spp.) and various oddballs (as Neotropical pike characins of all sorts, Chalceus, rare knifefish ['tiger', 'dragon', 'trumpet', 'centipede', etc.], African mudfish, halfbeaks, Chalceus, etc.

Are you sure... Reeeeeeeeally sure?
Not only do 80%+ of small businesses go under within two years but the amount of work involved is astronomical.

oh yeah i want to... i work in the architectural field (almost licensed) and i know what hard work is... and I certainly would never leave design. If I do start a buisness no matter what it is, it would only be a secondary source of income and I wouldn't even care about making too much money from it. I know... sounds more like a hobby but in reality that's what I enjoy.

Congo Tetras are very nice. I agree with the Rainbowfish, except Petco has started carrying them, at least the Boesmani, Celebes, and Salmon or Iridian Red. Pearl Gourami seem to be hard to find, and when I see them they are dinky and look like they are sick.

Plants- Hygrophila Polysperma because it is a fast grower
Impossible to find here.

Riccia fluitans-also impossible to find

Anubia Nana

Hydrocotyle Leukocephala (I just ordered some from Europe)

Please stock the proper fluorescents to support the plants! It is so frustrating to have no selection of decent FW plant bulbs! Since the shop is primarily marine, I am sure they stock compact fluorescents and lots of 50/50 and actinic, those won't work for FW planted. Daylight 6700K!!!

Yeah, the lighting, I was disappointed because there is inconsistancy in the lighting. He just sold one of the lights over a section of the tanks to some guy a few days ago

Anyways, I went to see him last night and I told him I had gone online onto an aquarium forum and asked what sort of fw we ought to stock to improve variety, and he said that he'd love to do it as long as he can find them. He travels all over state, like I said, so it should be no biggie. He also said he has a few regular customers who have inquired about more uncommon fw stuff so he thinks it's a good idea.
And I want to get a better supply of the commons, too... he tends to just have one or two specimen of each species...

He's only been open about... two years now? And business definately waxes and wanes. I feel bad because I went in there last night because a brazilian puffer I bought off him had some kind of velvet or something, and he just handed me this half empty bottle of hydroplex that had initially been priced at $34. He also has just been paying me out of his pocket, and if anyone asks, I am volunteering and he is donating me money, basically. Atleast there's a lot of room for improvement in his shop... but it does have a lot of potential.

I'm liking the cleanup crew thing... I think it would be cool to get assorted colors of apple snails, too. Decorative, not just the standard black ones. Anyone know where I can get them cheap / in bulk?
