I found this baby in my 2.5 gallon about a week ago and I was waiting for it to get bigger so I can see what kind of snail this is. I'm thinking mystery snail? Shell looks really bad so I've been putting in some tums (1/4 of one tablet) to supplimate calcium.20240815_145735.jpg 20240815_145709.jpg20240815_145548.jpg

I'm posting 2 more pics in hopes of someone being able to identify it. Thanks!

There used to be a link here to how to ID larger snails based on shell shapes, flat spiral vs pointed, etc. Try searching canaliculata (spelling?) for the links. I think those are related to mystery snails. But I don't recall beyond pomacea genus (search that too). I think some snails are not legal to sell in the US...but that doesn't mean they can't be acquired.

I think, but don't remember for sure, that my pink & purple mysteries had flat shell spirals, not pointy like yours. So maybe you have something else? What size is it? Could it have come on plants as a tiny baby or even eggs?

Thank you for the information. Someone said apple snail too so I'm just doing a little research. This baby is almost half an inch and the last new thing I put in the tank were live plants from Petco over 6 months ago. Weird right? I mean 6 months, he'd be a lot bigger right?

I think mystery types might grow slowly. But at 1/2 inch not the "usual" pond/bladder snail. Not a ramshorn or trumpet either.

I meant search here on AC. All I remember is it was a female poster, but you might not be able to tell by name. Oriongirl or someone else. It's been years!

Apple & mystery snails are "common" names, try pomacea too.
