Hi all. Two pics here. I was thinking possible early stages of white spot. Four days since first bought.

10 minutes ago. Still breathing.

Now. A closer look reveals:

Hours later, the second of the two CL has started to show similar personality symptoms, will update thread as I know more.

Now, does this mean my tank is contaminated? Is this my fault considering water conditions aren't the best currently, i'm breaking in a new large canister filter.

Would salt help the situation? If so how much for a 16~G (70L)? (Inhabitants are 6 Guppies, 4 Kuhli Loaches and 4 Baby BN, which are showing no signs of problems.

(About tank size, I realise CLs will outgrow the tank, when they get to a suitable size they will 'graduate' to the larger tank.)

Also, would it be safe to buy more Clowns from the same LFS in a week or two when the water quality is more suitable, or could there be something fishy going on? (excuse the pun.)

Thanks,
Rob

white spots? ICH maby.

For a 16gal, i think about a bottle cap of salt is enough. And bring the temp up to around 85*F.

I did mine to 90*F when my CL had ich and there cured now.

Also do water changes offten, like 10% or 15% weekly just to keep the water clean.

Thats all i can think of...

Clown Loaches are VERY intolerant of bad water conditions.

Check your parameters from both the tank and tapwater and these guys will be even more helpful.

Bottom dwelling fish are more apt to show bad water than a mid/top dweller.

how is the aeration of the tank? From the photos it seems (open mouths) that possibly there wasn't enough oxygen within the water to keep them going... sorry about your CL's... they're my favorite fish!

What are your water parameters? Ammonia, nitrites, nitrates, pH. Unless you are pulling 0 ammonia, 0 nitrites and ~10ppm nitrates, salt isn't going to help you.

From the looks of those poor clowns, I'd suspect nitrate poisoning, especially if you are not changing your water at least 25% weekly.

I'd not get any more fish until you find out what your water is like.
