Any geo experts out there that can help me identify this species.

I bought this trio as G. rio areoes but the description in Thomas Weidner's South American Eartheaters book just doesn't match.

Personally I think that these are G argyrostictus (possibly "Aripuana")

Can anybody confirm or advise otherwise?

One of the girls - left out of the pairing that is going on.

Another shot of both girls - notice the reduction in barring.

Any help would be appreciated - There aren't many different geos getting around in Australia and I would really like to be able to sell any offspring under their proper name.

Cheers

It looks exactly like one I have kept for the last 8 years. It is a very big fish reaching 10+ inch but extremely peaceful. It is commonly called G. surinemsis in the trade, but the real species name is unknown and is likely a mix of several closely related species. Unless you are a fish scientist, the real species name doesn't matter as they all look alike.

I Just bought two of these I think, they are rather small right now about 1-3/4 inches and have two dark dots on either side. They seem to be the same fish unless they have a two spotted cousin.

Definitely argyrostictus. No other Geo has the mark under the eyes like that. Hence the common name "Tearstripe" eartheater. Awesome pickup!!!!

I have wanted these for a long time but they are rare in the US and when you do find them they are very expensive.

They are awsome, i can't wait for them to get larger. What would be the best feed for them? If anyone has some good advice I would appreciate it.

post up some pics and I will try my best to correctly identify them for you. then I can suggest a correct diet for them.

with my geos, i just have lots of meaty foods and vege type foods and just switch it up throughout the week, although I am conditioning my redheads with frozen foods and Seachem Nutri-diet Naturals. so hopefully some babies really soon!!!!!!:):):)

Ihave been trying to take some photo's but they are not coming out so hot!! Why are pic's of aquariums so hard to take! :(
