Idiot at the pet store....

Ok your not at a complete loss..though the process may not be in time. There are companies that supply Fish stores that have products that will make your water brackish. It's a simple pour routine from the bottle as indicated and will turn your water brackish. Most people with Mollies don't put them in brackish water and find a slew of later health problems as a result. Always read about any fish or tank inhabitant before purchasing so you'll have time to get their new home set up as they need it. In this case I would recommend you return the fish to the store and either purchase marine salt or a brackwater solution then return once your set up. You want a Specific Gravity of 1.005 but 1.002 - 1.008 is acceptable. Also if you plan on adding plants RESEARCH!!! Most common aquaria plants will not accept Brackwater conditions.

Wow ,All these comments about bad fish stores. I guess im lucky ,I have never been to a fish store in my area that doesnt have the fish and requirements clearly marked right on the tank..Even our Petsmart ,Petco and Wal-Mart have stickers with general informating on all the fish there selling.

its not the stickers, its the people who are selling the fish. they dont know much and what they do know generally is wrong. its just better to play it safe and read up for yourself so you know what you are getting into

Sometimes a clerk, in effort to make a sale, will make up facts as they go along. They mean well and try to help the customer but in reality they are doing both the fish and the customer a great disservice.

Jenny hit it right ob the nail - no impulse purchase of fish! Research, research, research before buying any fish.

Learn from your mistakes and teach others from the experience.

the hard way

yes i know all about this subject ,

back in the 80's went to a LFS and it was one i went to often , clerk was some one i never seen before as i normally dealt with the owner ,
any way i seen a really cool looking fish and i asked if it will go well in a community tank ,,neons type fish i don't even remember how many fish i had in it now , but tank was full , so i brought home this cool looking fish , every thing was good all day he just sat in the corner of the tank nice and peaceful ,, UNTIL I TURNED OUT THE LIGHT FOR THE NIGHT

in the morning horror , every fish in the tank gone or half gone

so with the Internet now i try and study and plan out what i want to do

Oh the fish you ask, what cool looking 3inch fish ?

Excuzzze my ignorance but that is a cool looking fish. What is it?

clown knife fish they grow HUGE should be able to find them at MF

When young, these fish are comfortable in groups, but as they mature, they much prefer to live singly. Adult specimens will often not tolerate another Clown Knife or similar species in their tank. They also cannot be kept with smaller fish of any kind, as anything small enough to fit in their mouth will be considered as food and they will often take a snap at larger fish, just on the off chance they may get a meal out of it. .
